The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar
Staff and board members


The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar board of directors is made up of volunteers who donate some of their hopes, some of their heart, but mostly a love for this profession.
The board members are:

Levette Bagwell

Levette Bagwell has been a staff photographer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1998 and currently serves as Features Photo Editor. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a background in magazines. She has won awards from the National Press Photographers Association and the Florida Society of Newspaper Editors. Levette manages the Seminar's regsitration process.

 Mike Collins

Mike Collins

Mike Collins is editor of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association magazine and lives in Maryland. He is a former contest chair and director of the Seminar. He has been involved with various functions in the Seminar since 1979; starting back in the days when he was a photojournalism student at Western Kentucky University. Mike is the Seminar Treasurer.

Jeremy Brooks

Jeremy is an art director, a studio photographer as well as a web, print, and new media designer. He is a graduate of the University of West Georgia. Jeremy helps run the Seminar's contest and is the Seminar's audio-visual coordinator.

Elissa Eubanks

Elissa is a staff photographer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and a University of Georgia graduate. Elissa has responsibility for the Seminar's portfolio critiques and contest.

Ken Hawkins

Ken Hawkins is an Atlanta-based editorial photographer who has been involved with the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar in various capacities since its inception. A photojournalist for more years than he cares to remember, Hawkins has worked for more now-defunct magazines than any other Atlanta photographer. Ken handles vendors and promotion for the Seminar.

Erik S. Lesser Erik Lesser

Erik Lesser is an Atlanta-based editorial freelance photographer who also shoots for the major wire services in the Southeast USA. An alumnus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, the New York-native has been with the seminar since 1998. Erik is the Seminar's speaker liaison. He was previously the official Seminar Chef until the unfortunate Salmon incident of 2002.

Michael McCarter

Michael works with our Seminar volunteers. He is on the staff of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

 

Phil Skinner Phil Skinner

Phil Skinner is the current chair of the Seminar. He also helped oversee the switch from judging slides to digital entries. A former photographer at the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, Phil has been a staff photographer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution since 1994.

Alan Weiner Alan Weiner

Alan Weiner is the Seminar's workshop chair. He is a freelance editorial photographer based in both Atlanta and Portland, OR, has worked as a freelance and contract photographer for The New York Times for the past 20 years, and he is the CEO of The Wedding Bureau.

Past board members and others who have helped put on the Atlanta Seminar throughout the years have included: John Bazemore, William Berry, Louie Favorite, Billy Howard, Rich Mahan, Jerome McClendon, Jonathan Newton, Frank Niemeir, David Perdew, Michael A. Schwarz, Minla Shields, Jean Shifrin, Al Stephenson, Walter Stricklin, Charlotte B. Teagle, and Kenneth Walker.

Frank Niemeir was the Seminar's first webmaster in 1995.
