Speaker — Julie Jacobson
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Julie Jacobson
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism in
1992 at the University of Kansas. She joined the Kansas
City Star after college and worked as a staff photographer
at that daily newspaperuntil June 2001 when she joined
the Associated Press in San Francisco. In 2003
she transferred to AP’s headquarters in New York City.
Since joining the AP, Julie has traveled around the United
States covering various news events, as well as premier
sporting events such as golf’s majors, the World Series and
Super Bowls. Her international assignments include the Iraq
war in 2003 and 2004, Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010, the
Haiti earthquake, the last five Olympic games in Salt Lake
City, Athens, Turin, Beijing and Vancouver as well as the
men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups and the Pan Am Games.
