Cindy M. Brown, a Ph.D.
candidate in the School of Journalism at Indiana University and teaches visual
journalism and publication design courses at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.
She has worked as a staff photographer and picture editor at a number of newspapers.
Her recent research looks at the effects on subjects of published photos.

Mark Edelson is a picture editor at the Palm Beach Post, where he was named
NPPA's Picture Editor of the Year in 1995. He has worked at the Ft. Lauderdale
Sun-Sentinel and the Hollywood (FL) Sun-Tattler as picture editor, page designer
and Director of Photography.

Dan Habib is photo editor at the Concord Monitor (NH) where he photographs and directs a staff of four. Habib has photographed
and written dozens of documentary stories and is best known for his long-term coverage
of teen sexuality issues.
Habib is a five-time New Hampshire Photographer of the Year.

Ron Haviv, 31, is a graduate of New York University. Haviv has covered
the invasion of Panama, cocaine wars in Columbia, famine in Somalia, the Gulf
War, the flight of Kurds from Iraq, conflict in Russia, refugees in Rwanda, along with a
variety of stories in the United States. He has been represented by Saba Press Photos
since 1989.

Kenneth F. Irby serves as the
Associate in Visual Journalism at the Poynter Institute. In this newly created position, Irby teaches in visual journalism, ethics and leadership seminars and is creating new craft centered courses in photographic storytelling and electronic imaging.

Brian Plonka is a staff photographer at the Joliet Herald-News where he was
named Illinois Photographer of the Year and Region 5 Photographer of the Year.
Plonka was also Region 1 photographer of the year at the Biddeford Journal Tribune.

Stephanie Welsh is a 1995 graduate of Syracuse University and a staff
photographer at the Palm Beach Post. She received the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for
Feature Photography for a story of female circumcision in Kenya, distributed by
Newhouse News Service.
