CAPTION: (04/28/2006 TAMPA FL) After a busy morning in court, where a judge gave her a chance at a new life with a new family, Lillie Southerland, 14, right, went to Tampa General to pick her newborn son, Thomas, up. With the help of her new "momma" Amy Chandler, left, and NICU registered nurse Sue Greenberg, Lillie gets to take Thomas home for the first time -- now that she has a home to go home to. STORY SUMMARY: Lillie Southerland has been in foster care "like forever." At 14, and pregnant, the odds were now stacked against her being adopted. When she went to get her last sonogram, three days before the baby was born, Lillie was shaking. "If you're this scared, Honey, maybe you should get your mom to come in her with you," the sonogram technician told her. "I don't have a mom," Lillie replied. "Do you want to adopt me?" The sonogram tech, Amy Chandler, 37, already has five kids of her own -- ages 1 to 11. But she felt drawn to this little girl. And she's in the process of adopting her and her baby. Her own husband and kids haven't met Lillie yet. (Times photo by Melissa Lyttle)
